It’s one thing to lead a company. It’s another to lead an industry. Our Managing Director Matthew Amber can lay claim to both. The strata management sector has recognised Matthew’s dedication to the industry awarding him SA/NT life membership to the Strata Community Association (SCA) of Australia.

‘A force, a mentor, a leader’

SCA Australasia Vice President Joshua Baldwin presented Matthew with life membership at the recent Strata Community Association Australasia Awards in Darwin.  In his speech, Joshua said Matthew was a force, mentor and leader whose actions ‘have had a resounding impact…shaping the landscape of strata management services in Australia’.

A lifetime of service

Matthew began his career at Whittles in 1997. For the last 15 years, Matthew’s leadership has supported Whittles’ impressive growth trajectory. A path that’s seen the company expand to become one of Australia’s largest body corporate and strata management companies with branches in South Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory.

The founding father of SCA

One of Matthew’s biggest triumphs was the leadership he showed as president of the National Community Titles Institute. Matthew had a dream to supersede the organisation with a new peak representative body for the strata management sector. He could see that, even though there were, and still are, legislative differences across the various states and territories, strata managers shared more similarities than differences. Matthew was driven by his belief in a consolidated national brand and a strong, unified voice for the sector. In 2011, he lobbied other industry leaders to replace the National Community Titles Institute. Matthew succeeded. The Strata Community Association is now in its second decade.

A tireless champion for strata management

As the SCA’s inaugural president, Matthew played a key role in appointing the association’s first Chief Executive Officer and encouraged people to become members. Over the years, Matthew’s also been a strong advocate for promoting professionalism, education and ethics across the sector. He instigated an accreditation program for Australian strata management companies; an initiative which SCA Australasia Vice President Joshua Baldwin says demonstrates Matthew’s ‘commitment to excellence, to professionalism and to consumer protection’.

In Summary

Without Matthew’s vision, ability to influence and hard work, the strata community landscape would look very different. Life membership to the association Matthew founded is a fantastic way to recognise his unwavering commitment and extraordinary contribution to build a thriving strata management and body corporate sector in Australia. SCA Australasia Vice President Joshua Baldwin couldn’t have summed it up better when he said Matthew ‘has championed change, has pushed for better, has dared to challenge the status quo’.
